Which Body Part Can Predict A Man’s Health Issues?

The internet is full of articles telling you how to be healthy. You follow the advice, which is usually “eat right, go to the gym, and limit unhealthy habits.” That should be good, right? But you might need more than just a one-size-fits-all approach to wellness.

What if you’re having other issues? What if you suddenly have no sex drive? What if you have the drive but you can’t follow through?

You’ve probably read about symptoms of diseases presenting themselves in unexpected ways. For men, one of the signs of underlying health issues can be sexual dysfunction.

Maybe you don’t always prioritize checkups and routine doctor’s appointments to make sure everything’s in working order. But it’s just as important for you to have an annual appointment with your urologist as it is for women to have yearly checkups with their gynecologists.

Regular doctor visits can help you avoid any sexual problems. You may also be doing yourself an even bigger favor by learning about a more serious condition in its early (and treatable) stages.

Sexual Dysfunctions That May Signal Underlying Problems

What may have started as a “guy problem” could be the early sign of something a little more complicated. If you’re having any of the following problems, schedule an appointment with your urologist so they can rule out any underlying issues–and help you get back to normal.

1. Low Testosterone

Have you noticed that you don’t have much energy or that you’ve gained weight? Does your mood go from good to bad at lightning speed? What about your sex drive–good, bad, non-existent?

If you have unexplained weight gain, low energy levels, mood swings, or low sex drive, you might have low testosterone. The best fix is to see your doctor. They’ll likely prescribe testosterone to replace what your body isn’t producing and help you feel more balanced.

2. Erectile Dysfunction

Your sex drive is fine, but you can’t seem to get the job done. ED is a common problem among men, so you might think it will resolve on its own. But like other sexual issues, erectile dysfunction can be a sign of another condition.

The good news is ED is treatable. If it’s caused by a medical condition like diabetes or high cholesterol, getting treatment should ease your symptoms–including erectile dysfunction.

ED can also be psychological. If your doctor doesn’t find any medical problems, you might think about talking to a therapist to see if the cause might be anxiety or depression.

3. Premature Ejaculation

If PE is your problem, you might be under a lot of stress or coping with anxiety. Once your doctor rules out health conditions, you should talk to them about any trauma or depression you’ve dealt with that might be causing premature ejaculation. They can recommend steps to treat your PE.

4. Peyronie’s Disease

If you’ve played sports without wearing anything protective, you might have injured your penis. This type of injury can also happen during sex. You probably won’t even realize anything is wrong until you see or feel a bump or bend in your erection. This is the build-up of scar tissue from your injury. Peyronie’s disease can make it difficult–or impossible–for you to be intimate with a partner.

There isn’t usually an underlying cause for Peyronie’s disease, so you’ll just need to deal with the condition itself. Your treatment options are surgery to remove the scar tissue or a medicine that breaks it down.

5. Testicular Cancer

Changes in the size or shape of your testicles, or the development of a mass or lump, can be a sign of testicular cancer. See your doctor if you have these symptoms. Treatment is highly successful when it’s caught early.

While some treatments may lead to ED or PE, these are usually temporary side effects. Everything should go back to normal after your treatment is done.

6. Sexually Transmitted Diseases

If you have an STD, the symptoms usually present as itching, burning, discharge, or sores near or on your penis. If you have any of these problems, talk to your doctor. Most STDs can be treated with prescription medications.
