BLOOD SUGAR ESTIMATION dos and donots

BLOOD SUGAR RATHER TO BE CALLED PLASMA GLUCOSE.
A few things are to be kept in mind to go for next day assessment of plasma glucose.One has to remain fasting for 8 to 10 hours overnight after taking usual diet in the night for this,may take one glass of water in the morning. In no case less/more food should be taken which may give a wrong reading.If taking insulin or drugs for established DM should also take those as usual at night.Then go for giving bloodin the monnig . After that for postprandial plasma glucose estimation normal/usual diet for lunch to be taken along with insulin/oral drugs if any and blood should be given 2hours after .Always venous blood, preferably from the vein in elbow should be given.If all these aspects are not looked into one may get a fictitious result.
